The Tiwi Islands comprise Melville & Bathurst Islands. They are located about 80 km north of Darwin and are known for their Tiwi art and crafts, rugged escarpments, beaches, waterfalls and forests. Tours run during the dry season. ‘Tiwi’ means 'we, the people' and they are different to mainland indigenous tribes in both personality and culture.
